Just outside Reykjavík, Raufarhólshellir lets you walk straight into the earth: a 1,360-metre lava tube formed in an eruption around 5,000 years ago, with coloured mineral walls, ice sculptures in winter and shafts of daylight breaking through the roof. We handle the drive and drop-off; with the return option your van waits and takes you back. Guided cave entry (helmets and lamps provided) is booked separately — a perfect half-day when the weather keeps you off the open road.
