Ísafjörður

The capital of the Westfjords, built on a sand spit inside a steep fjord with mountains rising straight from the water on every side. The old town has some of Iceland's oldest timber buildings, and the drive in threads through a series of fjords and tunnels that is spectacular in its own right.
